I started my career in astrophysics with a PhD in general relativity from Queen Mary College, London. Early in my career, I moved into mathematics, lecturing at Edinburgh Napier and then at the University of South Wales. I taught specialist courses in system dynamics, mathematical modelling and software engineering.

Mathematical sociology. Modelling the growth of churches, political parties and cultural movements.
System dynamics. Mathematical foundations of model structure and behaviour, loop dominance and soft variables.
