Dr John Hayward

I started my career in astrophysics with a PhD in general relativity from Queen Mary College, London. Early in my career, I moved into mathematics, lecturing at Edinburgh Napier and then at the University of South Wales. I taught specialist courses in system dynamics, mathematical modelling and software engineering.

Research

  • Mathematical sociology. Modelling the growth of churches, political parties and cultural movements.

  • System dynamics. Mathematical foundations of model structure and behaviour, loop dominance and soft variables.

I collaborate with researchers in the School of Computing and Mathematics and the members of the Psychology and Human Behaviour group of the System Dynamics Society.
